The Special Area Development Authority (SADA) was created by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to implement the counter magnet project of the National Capital Region. The chairman of its board is a government nominee, and its funding comes from the NCR Planning Board and the Government of Madhya Pradesh. Its chief task is the development of Gwalior West.
Jurisdiction and planning
In April 2000 SADA was given jurisdiction over 28,102 hectares of Gwalior district and 1,912 hectares of Morena district — 30,014 hectares and 36 villages in all. The whole region was master planned, and planning for the major phases of the project was completed in 2006. The area is bounded to the west by the Tighra reservoir and the Sank river, and to the east by AH-47 (formerly NH-3). The ground is considered poor for agriculture and therefore well suited to urbanisation.
Development and projects
Gwalior West is home to a number of housing projects, government offices, institutions and sports complexes.
- Gwalior International Cricket Stadium — a 60,000-capacity project under construction.
- The proposed Gwalior Metro, which will connect Gwalior West to the city.
- Seven colleges and ten government and private schools operating in the SADA area.
- A police training school operating on 500 acres.
- A Sashastra Seema Bal township established on 37 acres.
- Water sports facilities operating at Tighra Dam.
